“Layered Nature", a new exhibition by nendo
ALPI is pleased to inaugurate the fall exhibition "Layered Nature" by the Japanese design studio nendo at the ALPI showroom, Via Solferino 7, Milan. The event continues the company's dialogue with contemporary design by inviting nendo to interpret wood veneer in a site-specific installation that turns the exploration of surfaces into a spatial experience.
The exposition is an extension of the nendo veneer collections ALPI Kasumi and ALPI Futae, two new renditions of wood that reflect both the nendo aesthetics and the skill at ALPI in bringing innovation and design culture together. In the showroom's space, surfaces and volumes overlap as if in natural stratification, in balance between lightness and density. The display is built with the two collections as construction material – the softly mottled grain of Kasumi, obtained by layering veneers of different tones, and the rough texture of Futae, made by alternating wood patterns on different scales to evoke materials like tree-bark and stone.
The objects and compositions – a monolithic bench, wall elements and free-standing pieces – interpret wood as a living material. Veneered in the colourways Kasumi Blue, Kasumi Grey, Futae White and Futae Grey, the objects emphasise the veneers' exquisite quality and the different manners in which they can be applied. At the same time, the pieces express nendo's ethereal design approach.
With "Layered Nature", ALPI affirms its corporate purpose to bring the noble qualities of wood to the contemporary design world by uniting material, research and experimentation.
